The Howard County Historical Society is accepting applications for the position of Executive Director. HCHS was named Indiana’s Outstanding Local History Organization in 2008 by the Indiana State Historical Society. In addition to its role in preserving and interpreting local history, the organization is responsible for a campus that includes Kokomo’s Seiberling Mansion, Elliott House, The Mohr Library and office building, and a carriage house used for storage and collections work.
The Executive Director is an employee of Howard County and the Howard County Historical Society. Responsibilities of the position include working with the Board of Trustees to implement the Society’s mission and accomplish its long term goals, fund development, budgeting, day-to-day management of finances and facilities, staff supervision, maintenance and development of the volunteer staff, compliance with ethical and professional standards for museum management, and public relations. The qualified applicant must have a college degree in a museum or history related field or non-profit management, or have experience in non-profit management. The applicant should also have a history of successful fundraising, the ability to work with an active and involved Board of Directors, and the willingness to represent the Society in a variety of public settings.
